October 4, 2011
Dear Parents,
It has been an exciting first month of school here at MSP and we are falling in love with your children. By now the tears are drying up at drop off. (there may still be a few for the younger ones, which is normal). We are settling into our routine.
There is a lot to look forward to at MSP in October!
Community Coffee
Thanks to Mary Moore for organizing our parent community coffees. You all are a fabulous group of parents. Our first ones were a success.
Parking for drop-off and pick up
Parents please remember to always park in the back lot when dropping off or picking up. At pick up please be sure that you are holding your child’s hand until they are in your vehicle. The front church parking spaces are for Franklin Classical School's drop off. At 1 pm, the North entrance is for teachers and pick up line only. Please park and come inside through the rear (West) entrance if you are walking in to pick up your child.
Devotions
We have been steadily going through the catechism songs. What an accomplishment for your children, memorizing this body of work. They have learned about God as the Creator of all things, and His attributes -- that He is Triune – three in one, that He is a Spirit. This coming month, we will learn about His omnipresence, omniscience and omnipotence -- He is everywhere, He knows all things, and can do all things.
Ask your children about the mystery box. You will be surprised at what they can tell you about the attributes of God and how every day things show God’s glory.
Bible verses
Here are the verses your children have learned to date: Gen. 1:1, 1John 4:16... God is love; Eph. 4:6; and 2 Cor. 13:14; “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”
Parent Teacher conference day
Parent-teacher conferences are coming Thurs/Fri October 20/21. These meetings are a great opportunity to share how your child is thriving at school. Teachers begin assessing basic skills and knowledge this month, which they will share with you. Most importantly they get to hear from you; what your heart is for your child. There will be no school that day, but childcare will be available for your child and their siblings during the meeting time.
Screenings
MSP is blessed to be associated with a professional who provides speech and language screenings. When you come to the conference, your teacher will have screening forms available for you. These screenings will take place at MSP early November. If you are interested in having your child evaluated, please fill out the screening permission letter and attach a check with the form. Williamson County and Franklin Special School District also provide screenings. These are free. We will also provide information about these services.
Halloween
MSP does not celebrate Halloween. There are so many strong opinions about this holiday, and to honor families who have strong convictions against this holiday, we do not dress up or pass out candy this day. Thanks so much for honoring this policy.
Stone Soup/Pumpkin Patch
On Thurs/Fri October 27/28 MSP will have its first special event. Each class will read Stone Soup and then make soup using a stone – and of course other yummy ingredients. Your teachers are going to post a sign-up sheet so you can bring something for the recipe. That same day your kids will go out to the MSP Pumpkin Patch. They will walk the nature trail and happen upon the patch, and find their very own pumpkin with their glittery name on it. It is too fun!
Picture Day
Tuesday and Wednesday, November 1st and 2nd, are our fall picture days. These are indoor pictures taken in color by our wonderful photographer, Curtis Wright. Your child does not have to dress up – but you might not want to send him/her in all white or in a character t-shirt that day! Curtis Wright will send proofs home with you child a couple of weeks later.
MSP Merchandise
We have MSP t-shirts for sale in our office. Adult t-shirts are $15 and children's t-shirts are $10. Please do not include this with your tuition payment. You need to pay for your shirts separately. We also have a CD of Diana's catechism songs, (all 3 volumes) MSP coffee mugs, hats and lunch totes. All proceeds will go directly to the MSP scholarship fund.
MSP Scholastic Book Fair
Please mark your calendars for MSP’s in house book fair, Thursday and Friday November 3/4. More details coming soon.
Overheards
A 4 year old was explaining a catechism question to her classmates. She began by singing “Who were our first parents? Adam and Eve, female and email, after His own image.”
In Art class, a little boy was mixing yellow and red paint on a page. When he folded the paper, then opened it up, Ms. Alicia asked what color he got from red and yellow mixed. He enthusiastically replied “They made awesome!”
A 4s teacher was teaching on the concept of God’s voice being so powerful that he simply spoke, “Let there be light” and there was light. She asked the children if they thought God yelled and one of the children said, “His voice is so strong, He probably just had to whisper.”
